  1. I met Father Stanley when i was a Curtate in Burton upon Trent, he was a good mentor to me and a good friend to my husband. Guided me through the plethora of applying for my first incumbency role and told me to leave well alone one particular post, for which i shall be ever grateful!!

  2. I met Prof in the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. He was our clinical anatomy lecturer. But he was so much more than that. He was so wise, witty and fun. He was also so caring and compassionate. He cared about all of us and he was always there for us. When I went through a personal crises, I will never forget his kindness to me. There are thousands of doctors all over the world who will be so sad to hear this sad news. He was the Prof that nobody ever forgot. He will be remembered with love. The personal crises I experienced led to me leaving RCSI. I did not graduate. But I kept in touch with Prof and his kindness and gentle guidance helped me safely through those awful years. I will never forget him. May his gentle beautiful soul rest in peace.

Comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable! Isn’t that exactly what our Lord wants mankind to do. Academia, the church, and all of us are going to miss Rev Dr Stanley Monkhouse.

Sincere sympathy to his wife and all his family and friends 🙏

  3. I will miss Stanley as a friend I have known since 1975. His passing was so unexpected. He was so knowledgeable on matters medical, musical and spiritual. I will never forget our exchanges. The memories live on. RIP.

  4. We never met in person but corresponded in an exchange of hundreds of emails. It all began with music, specifically the organ, then church matters, mostly C of E, sometimes Church of Ireland, generally led to every subject under the sun. Deepest sympathy to his family and to his former congregations in England and Ireland. The photograph above perfectly captures my impression of a kind, sincere man with a sense of fun, who could prick pomposity but had a clear and uncompromising faith.

  5. Fond memories of Stanley including his fascinating sermons on anatomy, ‘comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable’, and the hilarious synchronized swimming display in the pouring rain at a church fete. RIP Stanley. Condolences to Susan and all the family.
